HTC Touch Pro gets handled, keyboard better than X1"s?

The question on quite literally every WinMo fanatic"s mind as we go into the second half of the year here is, "Touch Pro or X1?" It"s not an easy question to answer, and anyone hoping to sink some cash on either one of these models in a few months is going to want to do so with a crap-ton of research and anecdotal information under their belts lest the buyer"s remorse set in particularly quickly. MobileBurn scored an early look at the Touch Pro -- which won"t be available at retail for a month or three yet -- and came away impressed with the all-important keyboard, saying that it was "much more" usable than the QWERTY found on Sony Ericsson"s rival superphone. Closed, it"s said to be virtually indistingushable from the Touch Diamond (which we"d say is a good thing) other than being a bit thicker to accomodate they keyboard and picking up a matte-finish rear cover. Unfortunately, HTC refused to show off the Touch Pro"s interface -- apparently on account of some new tricks up TouchFLO 3D"s sleeve that haven"t already made their way into the Touch Diamond -- but they did share that the new model will handle landscape mode with particular aplomb. So this one might have the X1 beat in the keyboard department, but the X1"s WVGA display takes the crown for sheer pixel count. Decisions!

Everex (mostly) acquired by NewMarket

Never heard of Everex? They"re the smallish, low-end PC maker owned by FIC (who we"d guess also might not know) that makes the Cloudbook (among other things). We only mention them because a third, even more unfamiliar company, a systems integrator named NewMarket Technology, is buying out 75% of Everex to flesh out their mobile hardware presence in certain developing nations. The sum"s undisclosed, the transaction"s due for completion this September, and you might still be wondering what it all means to you. Well, unless you live in Asia or Latin America, probably not a whole lot.

Sweety stress reliever hears you out, won"t complain if you batter it

Filed under:

We"ll go ahead and squash your welling excitement: from what we can glean, Sweety is nothing more than a concept, but for enough cash, designer Haishu Zhang may be willing to make your dreams a reality. Nevertheless, this highly sophisticated stress reliever somehow hears you out and can determine the root cause of the tension in your life. He"ll also invite you to play interactive games to keep your mind on more peaceful endeavors, but if the world just tosses too much in your way, he isn"t opposed to being maltreated if it steers you clear of the roof.

Volkswagen prepping a plug-in "Twin Drive" hybrid for 2010

Filed under:

You know how we love plug-in hybrids around these parts, particularly if they"re actually going to get built -- crazy, we know. Now it looks like Volkswagen is going to get into the game, with a "Twin Drive" Golf powered by a 122 horsepower diesel engine and 82 horsies of electric motor. The car should debut around 2010, and VW plans on spending $769 million on the project, helped along by a $23.5 million program put in place by the German government to help along such development. The car, which uses the electric motor for primary power, supplemented by the diesel motor and regenerative braking for extra juice, should be able to squeeze about 31 miles out of its Sanyo-developed lithium-ion batteries in all-electric mode.
